What a full and precious life it is…
Month: July 2010
Thank You…
We wanted to say thank you with all of our hearts to Maw and Grandma for staying with us and for being such a tremendous help in the first three weeks after Xander’s birth. For all of the housework juggling, toddler wrangling, and baby holding…and more than anything…for just being here with us…we love you!!!
Two Weeks…
At two weeks, Xander is: already going three and a half to four and a half hours between feedings at night; smiling socially a little bit (for real…it’s not gas); starting to hit his stride with nursing; amazing us with how alert he is when he’s awake; and starting to develop a sweet sleep/awake routine (napping when Jonas takes his afternoon nap and hanging out with MaMa and DaDa for a bit after Jonas goes to sleep for the night).
Xander and Henry…
I just had to put this picture on the website…
Our dear friends, Betsy & Erik Bledsoe, stopped by to bring us a meal and to visit with us a week or so after Xander was born. Their son, Henry, was asleep in his car seat, and our son, Xander, was asleep in my arms. Tom, the capturer of the moment, laid Xander beside Henry and this preciousness ensued.
Here is Xander Joseph at a week and Thomas Henry at nine weeks…
Aunt Tree’s Visit…
Jonas and Xander’s Aunt Tree and Cousin Gianna came for a quick and blessed visit a week after Xander was born. Here are a few pictures from our sweet time with them.
One Week…
At one week, Xander is: already showing incredible strength in holding his head up and in keeping his hands and his fists as close to his face as possible; preferring not to be naked (he’s not a fan of the diaper change or of the bath); enjoying sleeping on his side (he doesn’t seem to be a swaddle guy) and putting away some serious zzzs; and still getting the hang of the whole nursing thing.
Twenty Months…
At twenty months, Jonas is: continuing to floor us with his language skills by delving into more and more sentence speak; developing his Uncle Kerry’s affinity for dipping (his favorite dips include ketchup, salsa, ranch, sour cream, and yogurt); identifying where shapes go in his shapes/numbers cookie jar (star, square, circle, heart, and triangle); counting to five most of the time with pretty astounding accuracy; figuring out how to get his push toys to go where he wants them to go (picking them up and redirectioning them); amazing us with his balance and core strength; becoming more and more ingenious every day with things like standing on turned over baskets to get to something he wants (like locking/unlocking door knobs, climbing on couches, and peeking into the pack-n-play to see the baby); asking to pray for family and friends; and enjoying carrying DaDa’s lunch for him to the door every morning when he leaves for work.
Jonas Meets Xander…
When I was pregnant with Xander, Jonas would say “see baby”, “hold baby”, “kiss baby”, and “pray baby” every day. In fact, not a day went by that we didn’t “pray baby” together at every nap time and bed time leading up to his arrival. So, it was beyond words precious to see Jonas meet his baby brother, Xander, for the very first time.
You could tell right away that Jonas knew there was something different about this baby. When he saw him, he got really quiet and narrowed his eyes in that curious and figuring things out way that he has and then said “see baby…hold baby” with all of his heart. It took him no time at all to climb into DaDa’s lap and “kiss baby”, as he gently pointed out “baby hands”, “baby eyes”, “baby nose”, and “baby mouth”.
What joy that moment brought to our hearts. Two sweet spirits. Two precious sons. How we have been blessed!!!
