The boys and I took advantage of the first warm day in a long while…playing in the treehouse, picking up in the backyard, and working in the garden. Xander tromped into the kitchen in his muddy boots for some chewing gum “to plant a gum tree” (inspired by a book he LOVES called “The Gumdrop Tree”). With Jonas and Roman joining in, it soon morphed into even more muddy attempts to plant a cup tree and a bowl tree. While they were hard at work, I rescued some bulbs to force indoors…as they were already coming up and I was afraid the coming snow and ice would nullify all of their hard work. We all got super muddy but had a lot of fun doing it. Here’s to spring and more days working in the garden with my boys!!!

Happy Birthday, Roman!!!
Happy 3rd Birthday, Roman!!!
I love that you still want mommy to rock you before you go to bed and sometimes even in the middle of the night. You are such a little leader and enjoy trying to tell your brothers, friends, and even mommy and daddy what to do. You are every bit an extrovert and have jumped right into the preschool scene like you’ve been there all the time (and you have). You light the world and our home up with your smile, your laugh, and your spirit. We love you!!!
More Sledding Fun…
We have a really great hill in the cul-de-sac next to our house that’s perfect for sledding. So, we hit it up again this afternoon, as we needed an active outdoor outing today…the boys have been out of school all week and we’ve all been going a little bit stir crazy. It was just what we needed!
Snowed In With Maw…
Maw graciously spent the night with the boys on Sunday night so Tom and I could celebrate our upcoming 7th anniversary!!! School was out on Monday for President’s Day and was called off today and tomorrow due to the snow and ice. And she’s been snowed in with us since Sunday…it has felt like the holidays. Here’s the sweetest picture of Roman fast asleep in her arms after a sledding outing….preciousness.
Sledding…
We have snow and ice here in Tennessee and a few snow days ahead!!! We took the boys out sledding this afternoon…

Starting Seeds…
Xander and Roman had fun starting some Columbine and Delphinium seeds indoors for our garden this spring!!!
Thirty-Five Months…
In his thirty-fifth month, Roman is loving preschool and coming up with some pretty awesome one-liners:
“Mommy, when I was little like Xan-Man, I ate kumquats.”
“This is how we play…first me then you.”
“You are the bestest Mommy I ever haved.”
“Mommy, ‘knot’ begins with ‘astronaut’…yeah that’s a homonym.”
Mommy/Son Movie Night…
Jonas and I went on a date to his school for Mommy/Son Movie Night! We were both so excited and loved waving hello to friends, spending time together, and having fun snacks (hot dogs, popcorn, candy, and water). We ended up leaving after about thirty minutes, though, as the Lego Movie was getting a little scary for my kindergartener (and rightly so…I’m kicking myself for not checking the rating or previewing it beforehand…I guess I just assumed it would be age appropriate), but we very much enjoyed our plan B at home, cozing up on the couch together watching a few episodes of The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About…
Discovery Center…
I took the boys to the Discovery Center this morning…there was free admission in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Playing in the Woods…
We spent a fun Sunday morning playing in the woods…
Enjoying the Sunshine…
I never realize how much the gray and cold of winter affects me until there’s a mid-winter gift of sunshine and warmth and I feel myself come back to life a little bit.
Xander and Roman and I soaked up the sunshine this morning…playing with sidewalk chalk, climbing the climbing wall, riding bikes, and visiting with neighbors.
Roman’s First Day of Preschool…
Roman had his first day of preschool today!!! He was beyond excited and could not wait to get into his classroom. He be bopped in, washed his hands, and got right to work playing. When I picked him up, he didn’t want to leave and kept trying to get back into his classroom. Amazing…go Roman!!!
Winter Break Recap…
Here’s a recap of some things the boys and I did over the winter break to keep busy: painting, making bracelets and necklaces from pipe cleaners and beads, making sticker scenes, playing with water beads, making and decorating salt dough ornaments, drawing with sidewalk chalk, and hanging out in the triangle woods.
Roman’s First Trip to the Dentist…
