Roman can almost do the splits!!!

Old Stone Fort Park…
One of Tom’s best friends from high school, Derek Smith, has been visiting with us this week. We have had the best time with him…hanging out on the boat, going for walks, visiting the Opry, eating yummy food, listening to music, and laughing so hard. This morning, we enjoyed a walk and a little bit of exploring at Old Stone Fort Park in Murfreesboro (Xander was so fast moving on all of those rocks that I wasn’t able to get a picture of him when he wasn’t in motion). HaHa! Good times.
First Day of School 2019-2020…
The boys had their first (half) day of school today!!! They’re not huge fans of picture taking on back to school day (I know I wouldn’t have been either when I was their age), so you can see that a little bit in these pictures. But, I always enjoy being able to look back at these and see how much they’ve grown and what they want to be when they grow up.
Jonas, 5th Grade
“When I grow up, I want to be an architect.”
Xander, 4th Grade
“When I grow up, I want to be a dolphin trainer.”
Roman, 2nd Grade
“When I grow up, I want to be a police officer.”
On the Boat Again…
We went out on the lake this afternoon for one last hurrah before school starts. I drove the boat while Tom wake surfed (both super exciting in and of themselves). And Jonas and Xander both officially became…wake boarders…they got up on top of the water on the wake board and stayed up…what a beautiful and thrilling thing to see!!! I’m so proud of all of my guys. We also thoroughly enjoyed a little trio of ducks who hung out with us while we chilled on the boat, swam, and cliff jumped. What a great way to end the summer with fun times on the lake!
Back to School Bash…
The boys had their Back to School Bash tonight where they got to meet their sweet teachers!!! They were nervous and excited all at the same time. Here they are representing their grade levels this year…
Franklin Pool..
I took the boys out to the Franklin Pool to celebrate after Xander got his braces on…yes, Xander now has braces!!! They enjoyed swimming laps, going down the slide, and checking out the splash pad…
Summertime Camping…
We headed out to Percy Priest Lake this afternoon for a family camping adventure! We unloaded the van, loaded up the boat, boated around until we found a good camping spot, unloaded the boat, set up camp, went tubing, relaxed and ate dinner, went on a sunset cruise, ate s’mores, and pretty much tucked into bed not long after that. Tom slept on the boat, I slept in the big tent with Xander and Roman, and Jonas slept in the little tent by himself (but ended up moving his tent right next to ours before nightfall). It was decently warm out, so it was a little tough for everyone to get to sleep. Xander woke up at least twice in the middle of the night, if not more. And Roman woke up bright and early at 5:45 am, saying (really loudly) that he was hungry. Around 6:00 am, a whole banana boat tube full of screaming girls from Camp Widgiwagan made continual donuts right beside our campsite on the lake for a good 30 minutes. All of that to say, we had eaten breakfast, broken camp, and were packed up and headed back to the dock by 7:45 am, ready to get home and recover for the rest of the day. It was fun…just exhausting.
Happy Birthday, Jodi…
I had the best birthday ever!!! I woke up to hugs all around. Then, Jonas made me a delicious breakfast (oatmeal and strawberries with cinnamon and sugar). Afterwards, the boys showered me with presents wrapped in snowman paper…Tom gave me a beautiful dress and fun earrings, Xander and Roman gave me a comfy pair of pajamas, and Jonas gave me a really unique cactus. All things I love from the people I love. Not long after, we loaded up and headed to Tims Ford Lake. We had never been out there before, and it was beautiful. The weather was perfect, and there was hardly anyone out on the lake. We took turns riding on the tube, hung out on the lily pad, and swam in the lake. I even tried wake boarding!!! (I wasn’t successful, but it was still fun trying…I probably never would’ve taken the plunge without Tom highly encouraging me to.) We picked up steak, potatoes, salad, and cherry cheesecake for dinner. Yummy!!! It was a beautiful day, and I’m thankful for my life and to be 43.
Team Work…
After a full day and a full week with the boys, having lost my voice and feeling an old running injury creeping back up on me, and looking around at the amount of things I needed to do piling up to an overwhelming state around the house…I just, all of the sudden, was done. I let Tom know in the best way I knew how that I needed a BREAK, and he immediately started packing dinner for the boys and loading them into the van in their swimsuits. My dear husband heard me and after his full day and full week of work and with the boys, he found it in his heart to serve me in the best way possible and give me several hours of quiet time alone at home, which is just what I needed. I was so tired but wanted to put my precious time gift to good use and knew, because I’m that kind of girl, that trying to set everything to rights by cleaning and organizing the house would help calm my frazzled nerves and lift my spirits. So, I picked up, sorted through piles and put things away, cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the bathrooms, dusted, mopped and vacuumed the floors, folded and put away buckets of laundry, and cleaned our room. I was even able to sit down for a few minutes and relax and enjoy the clean house before the boys came home!!! Tom ended up taking the boys out on the lake, where they ate a picnic dinner and had some good daddy time, and out to a store to pick up some birthday presents for me. What a blessing! I’m so grateful to God for bringing me Tom. His love and his presence are healing to me every day.
Radnor Lake…
We went to Radnor Lake for a hike after blueberry picking this morning. I didn’t think it was going to be too much for the boys, but I guess it was. Oh well.
I gave Jonas a trail map and appointed him as the navigator (which was great until he would announce, “Guys, we still have a mile left until we get back to the car!”). Xander was not into being there, so he basically…ran ahead and tried to run off the trail whenever he could, grumbled the whole time, and hit anything and everything with a stick. Roman really dug the nature scavenger hunt I printed out for them and found all sorts of things. He also insisted on carrying (or on me carrying) a gargantuan stick most of the way because it doubled as “his antlers”.
We saw all sorts of wildlife…a buck, four does, a fawn, a heron and her babies, beautiful blue and yellow butterflies, and a log full of turtles. AND we hiked two miles! So there.
Blueberry Picking…
The boys and I went blueberry picking this morning at Golden Bell Farm. We ended up going a little later in the season, so most of the berries were a little tougher to find/get to than usual. BUT we still ended up picking almost 2 pounds collectively!!! Xander, even though he doesn’t look like he’s too into it in his picture, picked the most.
Grand Ole Golf…
I’ve been feeling a little down and needed to pull out of my funk. So, I took the boys to Grand Ole Golf. I used to go put put golfing there with my mom when I was a little girl, and I knew they would love it as much as I used to. The weather was beautiful. Jonas, Xander, and I took score and Roman just played for the fun of it, which ended up working out really well for everybody. After we finished playing 18 holes, we took a break and ate the lunch we brought from home and re-grouped. For fun, I decided to let each boy choose one extra activity…Jonas (and I) chose go karts and Xander and Roman chose the arcade. This was Jonas’ first time driving a go kart on his own, and he did a great job…I was impressed! I had fun zipping around the track, trying to keep up with him. Xander and Roman, even though each ended up with differing amounts of tickets, were rewarded above and beyond by the sweet girl behind the counter (she even tossed in several things for Jonas). They were so excited. Afterwards, we stopped at Cotton and Snow for one big snow cone to share with multiple flavors…I picked snow cream, Jonas picked red velvet, Xander picked blue raspberry, and Roman picked sponge bob. Yummy! It ended up being a really fun, indulgent day that lifted all of our spirits.
Lake Wylie…
We went to Lake Wylie, NC this past week for our biennial celebration of Grandma and Grandpa Seyfried’s wedding anniversary with Grandma and Grandpa Seyfried, The Seyfrieds, The Longs, and The Paccassis. We are so blessed to be able to gather together with family. We enjoyed tubing, riding on the boat, swimming in the lake, paddle boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, waverunnering, eating, playing games, reading, and catching up.

Boating Adventures…
We joined the Nashville Boat Club this summer (and are sharing the membership along with another family)!!! Tom is so amazing at finding these adventurous things for us to do at the best possible rate…it’s one of his many gifts.
We took a wake board boat out today and had so much fun…I mean, come on…what a dream!!! All of the boys tubed on the Big Mable, which is basically like an inflatable overstuffed chair. They all jumped off varying heights of cliffs into the water. AND they all tried wake boarding…Xander was the only one who was able to get up on top of the water. Jonas loved watching him and said, “Mom, this is more entertaining than TV!” HaHa. It is truly exciting to watch. I was inspired by their bravery and might try it myself sometime soon…we’ll see.
Star Spangled Celebration…
The Star Spangled Celebration in our little town gets better every year. To celebrate the 4th of July this year…there were tons of inflatables, a climbing wall, face painting, food trucks, live music, and booths galore (Tom helped out with the NVFD one). It was super hot, but the kids still had fun. They ran around, played football barefoot, visited booths to pick up swag, and waited with me in a crazy long line for ice cream that tried to melt before we could eat it all. Here’s a picture of all three of the boys together…
SOAC…
We went to the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center pool today!!! We met two of our dearest friends, the Pomerantzes and the Hearns, and really just had the best time. There was something for everyone with a deep end, a climbing wall, three water slides, a lazy river, and a splash pad. (It was a win…I really needed a win after all of the fighting, whining, meltdowns, and emotional rollercoasters we walked through yesterday and what feels like many of the days before.) Yay for a great summer’s day!
